My problems seem trivial after I read these comments. My heart goes out to all.
I am 56 and was in a car accident 17 years ago. While I was often sore on my right side, I lived an active and normal life. Over the last three years I have thrown out my back several times, and my SI join paint got much worse. I started doing alot of yoga which stabilized my back, but I could not sit for more than 5 minutes without pain. I did wear an SI belt which brought relief when sitting, but still difficult. I have been to three neuros and three pain management Dr. who basically focused on injections. No one advocated for iFuse, I had to seek it out.
I had my procedure 5 weeks ago. I am pleased to say that the pain from the SI itself is almost entirely gone. I was hobbling around in days and walking without a limp in 2 weeks. I barely needed crutches. My incision is closed and not painful. I took pain meds for only one day.
However the muscles above the SI and to the left of it (I believe primarily the piriformis) are very fired up. They were the source of pain before, and they may be a smidge worse. I believe that they are baring the burden of the additional load. My Dr. thought it would get better and said it took an entire year for the fusion to fully take. So overall I think I have had a successful outcome, but I feel maybe 30% better and I was hoping for 80%. Does anyone else have similar symptoms and what has your experience been?
