My sis battery flipped by day 4 post-op!

I'm now 8 weeks out, my battery sits totally sideways since day 4 and is painful! I wore the post-op elastic stomach band until last week, per doctor's orders. Here are a list of topics she discussed with me, note the changes from week to week! Week 1: Don't worry, the battery will straighten out when the swelling goes down!

Week 5:Doctor: I think the battery needs to be surgically moved to a higher part in your back, the sooner the better! ME : But doctor, I have a whole new out of pocket for the year to meet, I don't have that kind of money!

Doctor: It's ok, I'll wait until you've met your out of pocket!

Me:Why don't you pay it since you goofed up!

WEEK 8 DOCTOR: I don't think we should move the battery. As I recall, your skin fibers were very tough to cut through, probably because you have blue eyes ! ME: EXCUSE ME? I've never been told blue eyes cause tough skin, especially in a strawberry blonde! I've had over 20 surgeries, six of them on my spine and not one doctor said my skin was tough!

PLEASE, THIS BATTERY HURTS! Suggestions? I know I need a second opinion, but no other doctor will touch me. My stimulator is from Boston Scientific.

I think at this point, you do need to have a second opinion.  I would also contact the manufacturing to see if they have any suggestions

  • I got several other opinions and the doctors are all in agreement that the original surgeon should redo the battery pouch and stop making excuses! I have to push my battery into an upright position, attach two double sided sticky pads to either side of my skin next to the battery, place the charger belt with the charger inside and out the belt on as TIGHT as I can just to hold the battery in place for hours while it charges! I have to do this every day because my battery runs down so fast! Oh, did I tell you my representative from B.S.was talking about me behind my back telling my doctor I didn't trust them anymore? Now the doctor wants a Neurosurgeon to move the battery! My poor insurance company! I'm going to demand they do it with local anesthetic only! I want to hear everything in the room and record it!
