Pain in left thigh, left shin and now hip.

I’m only 2 weeks into this but I haven’t seen anyone with my exact symptoms so I’m reaching out for answers. It started as a dull pain in my left thigh.  Similar to overuse. 3 hours later I couldn’t even stand and the pain was also in my left shin. The pain in my shin was a burning pain with an intensity I’ve never felt before. The thigh was more like what I would imagine a knife blade in my thigh feels like. The only comfort came if I laid down on my right side. Sitting was painful, standing was excruciating and I could only walk 20 feet before the pain put me down. I also experienced my left knee buckle when I stepped on 2 inch piece of a kids toy. After that I felt weakness in my left as the pain was increasing with every step. It only buckled that once though. First doctor I saw said classic Sciatica and “ I shouldn’t let it control my life “. Gave me muscle relaxers and an anti-inflammatory and sent me home. Before this I would have said I had a decent to high tolerance for pain. I know people with sciatica and this isn’t the same. They say it’s hard to get used to but you can. The pain I’m experiencing is one that increases with every second I stand or step I take. I haven’t found a plateau yet. It just increases until I succumb  to the pain. If I push it I start sweating profusely and even screaming in pain almost involuntarily. Anyone have similar problems or can point me in the right direction on what I can do? I can’t sleep I’m worthless at work I really need help.

  • Would I need a referral to see a specialist?

  • Thank you. I will give an update as soon as I have one.

  • I had a second opinion and finally got some relief with a pain medication he prescribed. The pain is not gone but it extends the time I can stand and walk. The pain also goes away faster when I lay down. Two weird things happened. I had no reflex in my left leg when he tapped it. He  also asked me to bend over and about a quarter of the way own I felt a very sharp pain in my left hip. He said it’s not sciatica immediately after that. I’m getting very concerned about this now. Can anyone tell me what possibilities this could be? I asked the doctor and he wanted to wait till after the X-ray and probable MRI to see what information they provide. I’m not looking for a diagnoses just what are some things it could be. I can’t find anything or anyone online with the same symptoms and I’m getting worried. Please if anyone has been through this or can shed some light on just possibilities I would really appreciate it.
