Possible Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

Hello to everyone.

I am a 74 year old lady

I have possibly just found the cause of my pain problem in my leg, I am fine till I am on my feet and walking.

Watching the supervet a beautiful dog was diagnosed with this complaint and apparently the owner had it too. When I looked it up I was amazed to see the symptoms I have been suffering for almost a year. Due to other health issues apart from physio (no luck) that is it.

Thank you for the forum

  • Hi Chip.

My problem has been pain when on my feet.  Sore lower back. Pain in the thigh groin area  and buttock, sometimes lower leg affected. I am fine when off my feet which is what struck me wen I looked up stenosis . I am seeing my rheumatologist in two weeks time. I have rheumatoid arthritis Will ask for an xray or scan as this is really affecting my mobility. I am on 10mg steroids for a heath condition but when they tried to reduce them the pain got really bad.  May be going on a different tablet for RA and other condition..

I have posted a link below where there are some really good articles that you can read about stenosis.

Have you been to a spine specialist to get checked out?

    But what caused the stenosis?

  • Probably age MarWin. Seems to be a thing that can happen.

But if it is "age", does that mean all of your vertebrae experiencing the same? Also, why doesn't everyone your same age have the same issue? I'm not intending to be harsh but trying to draw reasoning as to how age is a factor.

  • Just been to Rheumatology for check up.  Asked for xray or scan.   Getting an Lumbar spine MRI done to see what is going on :)

Be a while till I know, a month wait then results letter should come later.  Said to use more co-codamol so I can reduce steroids. They are less of a problem.

    Thanks for the replies

  • Can I kindly ask @dilauro ... what are the magic numbers for lumbar and cervical stenosis again?

    10mm or 12mm?

You posted them some time ago but I lost the post.

    Thanks!
