Activity after TLIF at L4-L5 and a laminectomy

I'd like to know how active people were after a lumbar fusion. My PT after surgery says no more than 2 hours sitting per day and no more than 30 minutes at a time. I haven't been told how much walking, standing, lying down I should do. The only comfortable position I've found has been reclined and changing the angle I'm reclined every 30-60 minutes. I'm not feeling much pain, but I'm pretty anxious every time I transition from laying in bed to standing, transition into bed, sitting on the toilet, basically any transition that requires a little more effort.

  • Well I started with only 1 minute of walking the day after surgery. I had a set-back as my body did not take to being operated on. It took a week to make it through the pain and hospital stay, then back to 1 minute a day with an added 1 minute each day there on out. I used a walker to start. I think my recovery went more slowly than most but you know we are all different. I was able to stand for awhile and sit for a brief period as well. I would say about a month out I was doing most everything for myself, except tying my own shoes. Does that help? I had an L4/L5/S1 MIS TLIF for a pars defect.
