Degenerative disc disease

I have sciatica and degenerative disc disease. It really hurts when I walk or stand too long .  Not when sitting or lying down. Had it for 40 years and now it is worse. I do not want to see a chiropractor. Should I see a pt?  I cannot walk too far with this.  Does this  ever get better? I am a lady 73 yrs old.

  • Welcome kit12 we’re glad you’re here!

Sciatica is very painful, there are a lot of us here that suffer from it, if it were me and it has gotten worse lately, I would look into seeing a spine specialist ans getting the proper diagnostic testing, there are several non surgical treatments that could be helpful to your situation.

I agree with Chip. Finding a specialist could possibly give you options for treatment and PT.
Take care and keep us posted.

  • Hello Kit12 - I'm so sorry to hear that you are in such severe pain.  As the others advise, time to see your doctor and/or a spine specialist.  You really want to try and narrow down what's causing the pain and what types of  recommendations they will offer to help relieve your pain.  Hang in there - you're not alone!
