Wake Up with Thoracic Back Pain

Go to bed fine and wake up in the AM with my thoracic back aching. Every day - never fails.

Bought a new Sleep Number bed a year ago - it's not the bed - it's my body on the bed. I'm a side sleeper.

Any ideas here as to what's going on and how to mitigate?

I have issues from my shoulders down to my back - I've been feeling lately it's how I position my arms at night.

Thank you!

  • kyacoubian - I highly suggest that you get an opinion from a spine specialist.  He/she will likely want some diagnostic imaging.  I had neck trauma that deteriorated my cervical and thoracic spine over years.  Your reported symptoms could be caused my many things.

  • Have awesome doctors - done all of that - I know what my issues are - this is something that happens when I'm sleeping only - not during the day. Thanks anyway.

Like stiffneck7 said, it could be a number of things and we have no idea of knowing what is causing this.  With all of my spine issues, finding a comfortable sleeping position has been trial and error. I also sleep on my side so I put a pillow behind my back and one against my stomach and put my left leg on it. This is what is comfortable and what works for me.

Take care and let us know how you are doing.

  • Thank you - sorry if my post caused confusion - not looking for a cause - just folks who may deal with the same issue and how they handle.

That's ok. Trial and error is about all you can do. Hopefully other members will give their suggestions.
