New Here....what's normal after fusion

  • these are acronyms describing two surgical approaches to a lumbar fusion. which one a surgeon chooses depends on the patient's diagnosis and anatomy, and on the surgeon's training and preference. here are links to illustrations of the procedures. i don't thing there are substantial differences in recovery time between the two. my sister had a plif at l4-l5, while i had a tlif at the same level. her recovery was uneventful, and at least as quick as mine. different surgeons, in different hospitals.
