Well, I'm about 3 months outta surgery (L4/5 fusion w/hardware) and nobody told me the cold has express permission to crawl into me via the metal bars & screws!

At least I can tell a day ahead of time when it's gonna rain!

I was feeling good about a month ago and went on craigslist looking for a keyboard player and wound up having a guitar player come over my place. We jammed and talked about how we miss the 'band thing' and decided to put a songlist together of old favorite tunes and then get together at his place (so we could play louder).

It was kinda fun but didn't really work out as I was just about able to stand for 2 hours before i couldn't deal with the pain. It was an experiment that put me back into my place! It must've been the meds making me think I was able to do such a foolish thing...;>)

Overall i've been dabbling more on my unplugged electric geetar as I sit at the boobtoob coming up with more tunes but I just can't seem to get my butt into my studio (calling it a studio is a bit of a stretch).

Mostly the cold really affects me seemingly going straight into my new hardware so now I'm back to using my trusty heating pad during the day and heating blanket at night.

I did find out that my Spider 3 150 watt 2x12 combo amp sounds great at really loud volume tho'!

Anyway, I was just wondering how all the other musicians have been doing since this topic was posted last time...?
Hopefully y'all have been managing better (or even picking up an instrument and start learning to play?).

RanchHand, if you've got any new lyrics...;>)
All the best,

  • Rock on my brother! I, too, and a musician and have been since the 3rd grade. I mainly play the upright bass but have been seriously looking into the electric uprights (Clevenger baby!! YEAH!!) just because they are more compact and all. What I find that works for me, and because of the instrument I play, when I am standing and playing I can put alot of my weight on the side, if you know what I mean.... kinda lean on it and it leans on me. I can't stand for long periods of time so the tall stool comes in handy when I just want to lean it back on me and rest a bit. I am also looking into my first electric bass guitar, something I had been against since I am classically trained, but nowadays I am thinking it would be cool to.... just to beable to cop a squat somewhere, plug in my head phones and make music magic!! LOL... It gives me an inner piece and sense of true accomplishment because it's all me.

Anyway, I'm sorry to ramble but you know how us artsy folks can be.... yea!!! I hope you are able to find a way to mak this work for you because music really does soothe the soul and is something that you can get lost in for even a short while.

Good luck and nice to have you here,

    Take care and hugs,

P.S. As far as the hardware goes, I hear you there, too! I have Ray Cages where my L4-5 disc was and at one time had pedicle screws and rods. I know exactly what you mean by feeling the cold from the inside out and what it is like to be a walking barometer! Geesh!

  • Hey Jim,

another fellow musician here, kinda on hiatus right now.I posted in the old thread an my depression steals the thunder t even enjoy my one true love.I am originally a bass player, turned recording engineer that worked in LA + Austin TX in the mid 90's early 2001 before my "breakdown".I till have a beat up electric around to noodle on and use Logic Pro(an audio/midi program that is intense) to record my ideas whenever I get the urge.I am glad your feeling better and writing, it does help to keep your mind off the pain.

  • I'm glad to see all your spirits are still up(right!).
Music does help a lot to keep the mind a bit outta reach of the pain!

Amy, definately get an electric bass, that way you can curl up in a recliner with a heating pad and still play the bass!
  • You know its easy'r to fly
crouched down here, under leaden sky
You know its easyer to try
with all the tears gone from my eyes

You know its easyer to fly
all you have to do is try
Yea all you have to do is try

Letting go is easyer you know
than holding on with all your heart
    and all your strength
    Just let go
    just let it flow
    go on with life
    its not worth the strife

    Face into the sun
Yea! your gonna see me run
    Into summers sky
I sit and turn my eye
    into summers sun I fly

all you have to do is try
    theres no more tears here
    theres no more fears here
    and were all gonna fly
    were all gonna fly

    Into the grey
    into the fray
    we'll find our way
    theres no giving up
    theres no other way
    and we'll see each other
    in a better day
coz its there were gonna stay...

  • Hey, Jim. I was wondering when this post was going to start come back to life. I am a muscian. I play flute and piccolo for the school band. I used to play drums for a concert one time for the school but stopped that. Other insrtuments I play are piano, keyboards, whistle(an actual instrument), reed flute, glass flute, harmonica, Steel Lap Electric Gutiar, Accoustic Guitar, and that's pretty much it. So if anyone has any questions for me let me know. Music IS my life!
  • My question is, when are you going to move to NH and play piano for me?
Keyboard players are non-existant around here!
  • I play piano, but only for fun. My husband is a pro musician. He plays keyboards and guitar and sings. He also loves to do harmony work. Not bad for someone that has never had a music lesson in his life.

Would put up a link here to his music site but think that might break the rules and Danni doesnt want to be a bad girl lol.

  • Put up links, pics, etc. it's all good!
  • Ime thinkin a stately acoustic, like jim croce
