I was reading over some of the previous posts about facet rhizotomy because my doctor just told me that I can have facet rhizotomy or do nothing. After 3 failed injections and 3 rounds of facet injections (which gave me 2.5 weeks of relief), I am beyond frustrated. At least I know there are others out there that understand what I am going through and can hopefully answer some of my questions!
A little bit of history- I have had a L5-S1 discectomy and laminectomy about 3 years ago and have a bulge at L4-L5. After surgery, I did well! I was able to participate in sports again, ride my bike for miles and take classes at the gym. Sure, I was a little tight after that, maybe iced or take some pain meds, but it was livable. About a year ago I was re-ended and I have been suffering from nerve pain ever since. After failed injection after injection the doctor suggested rhizotomy.
I did some research on the facet rhizotomy, but still have some questions.
1. How long did it last for you?
2. After it wears off, you have to get it again; has anyone had multiple rhizotomies? Is this something I might have to have the rest of my life or will the nerve just die after enough stimulation?
3. Has anyone had these and then had a child? Able to do activities with their child? (Obviously I am thinking about the future, hopefully near future because my husband and I would like to have a child some day soon, but don't even know that is possible- afraid to ask the doctor about that- or should we think about other options)
Any other advice I should know going into this or any other words of encouragement would be great?
Thanks for any help!
