  • You're only around 3 weeks out of the discectomy, and the ortho doc should investigate the cause of the increased pain. He may want to send you to have a post op MRI. I had this same problem after my first surgery (see below) and was sent for an MRI. It was months later that I found out the extent of the problems I developed, and I was upset that it was withheld from me. I went on to have a 2 level fusion after all that.
Keep in mind that it's still very early in the recovery for you, but I do think the Ortho doc should follow up on you. It is common for them to send you to pain mgt for post surgical pain care, and the pain specialist are equipped to handle this. Perhaps the ortho doc isn't comfortable prescribing anything higher than Norco 5/325. I think a muscle relaxer and a nerve pain medicine like Neurontin, Lyrica, or Cymbalta will be very helpful to tackle your pain. The combination of these meds are more effective for this than just one type of medication. Maybe you should consider your ortho doctor's recommendation to see a pain specialist, and I hope you get some relief soon. Take care
  • Anyone on here tried VAX-D? (Vertebral Axial Decompression) I've heard it's supposed to be great. Non-invasive, surgical alternative. I read about it here: www.americanbackcenter.org
