I have been looking at the posts because I am scheduled to have a L4-5 L5-S1 fusion in January. I have seen restrictions listed from other people and was wondering what No BLT meant? If anyone can give me an answer it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • BENDING LIFTING TWISTING
  • Yes, no bending, lifting or twisting. This is KEY!! Please take this as seriously as you can. If you have meds that take most of the pain away, you may be tempted to get up and do too much. You definitely don't want to cause problems by bending, lifting or twisting too early. There have been members that bent down, picked up a dog (completely forgot their restriction) and the next day, they couldn't get out of bed.

With a fusion, your nearby discs are more susceptible to problems. When one level is "fused", the nearby levels have more stress can can more easily "blow out" themselves.

IMO, one of the most important things we can do as a patient is follow the doctor's orders to the best of our ability, and unfortunately that is NO BLT for several weeks at a minimum.

    Good luck!
