Facet Pain VS disc pain

  • About accuracy of MRI, I couldn't agree more. Prior to my 11/24/10 MRI, I had facet block and epidural steroid injections, which, according to the PM docs, were prompted by severe facet arthropathy (=arthritis) and spinal stenosis. The facet blocks weren't worth a plug nickel and the epidurals didn't provide enough relief. Small wonder: the MRI showed insignificant facet disease, only mild stenosis, and - surprise - a herniated L4-5 encroaching on the L4 nerve root as well as mild herniations at L2-3 and 3-4. No wonder my symptoms were worst on the left side, with sciatica down the entire leg, numbness, and tingling in the calf and foot. After 5 weeks of PT I'm feeling much better. No more PM for me (that is, unless other problems develop down the road). Best wishes to everyone, MRI or none. Love, Essmoe
