I just noticed that where they cut me on my neck looks and feels thick and hard, like there's a rope in there. It's not red or oozing or anything like that, but it does look/feel weird. Has anyone experienced this?

  • Mine looked that way right after my surgery too. But it's now a year later, and unless you look really close, you can't even see my scar. It takes quite awhile for the incision to heal. At least it did in my case. Good luck, hope you are feeling better.

  • I had a 2 level fusion on December 10th

  • At 2 months post op you have to look hard to see my scar to. I thought the same thing you did right after surgery. It will go away in a few weeks. My doc actually pulled my stitches out with tweezers because they were sticking out and both ends. Right after he did that the swelling went away almost immediately. As long as it's not red or oozing you're ok. My doctor even suggested massaging that area very gently to break up any scar tissue.
  • Kimmy, I also have a hard, lumpy and numb incision. It's improving everyday, and will go away completely with time. My doc told me the same as Tonya's doc - massage the incision when you can. When I saw her about 4 weeks after surgery, she said it was like a string pulled taught at both ends and massaging it will loosen it up. It really works.

Hang in there, it gets better.
