Still in pain almost 3 years after surgery

hello everyone, i am in need of advise. I had 2 fusions within 9 months of eachother - my L5-S1 & S1-S2, second one due to not completly fusing and lower screws were lose. Now for the past 6 months i am having lower back pain again, with lots of inflamation. My doc insists i'm fused but i'm wondering if its the bigger screws in my sacrum from the second surgery -sometimes the pain goes down my legs but not always. Doc makes it sound like its in my head although he can't explain the inflamation. I've always had a "gut" feeling something was up with those screws and another doc suggest i have them removed but will not touch my back - anyone else have hardware removed and what effect did it have?
Thanks
Shelly

  • I would ask for a hardware block from pain management to see if the pain is coming from your hardware. I have heard of some who are very happy with having their hardware out.

  • As Marianne pointed out, there is a procedure that can be done to identify whether or not your hardware is the source of your pain. The key may be to work with a Pain Management doc. Can you get your GP doc or surgeon to give you a referral to a Pain Management doc?
