"procedures" gone wrong????

On the 6th of this month I received cervical and lumbar facet joint blocks, facet joint rhizotomy and epiduragrams. The day after my lower back was still painful - "8" on the pain scale. (It was much better than the day of surgery then the pain was a "25"!) About 2 days after the procedures my pain reached even higher. I now have more swelling, pain to the touch, numbness/tingleing in groin area, extreme pain and restricted movement in right leg. The severe pain is on my right side and the pain has spread to my left side slightly. The pain is also on my hips, rear and front of my legs. I called the doctor and he wanted to see me and give me a local and stated he must not of got all of the nerve. Well, i didn't go back. I'm too scared to receive any more of anything on or in my spine area. The lortabs hardly give any relief even after i doubled the dose(per doctor). Does anyone have suggestions of what to do or who to see for help? Also, what pain medications are not morphine based? Any help would be appreciated.

  • My pain level increased, and now my leg pain wakes me up again. It had stopped prior to these shots. I would never go through the things that have happened in the past six weeks again, and regret even thinking of agreeing to the facet shots. Believe me, you are certainly not the only one who has gone through this. I am just sorry it happened to you.

  • I was thinking some ice too, or rather, if you have them, those cool gel packs. Certainly NOT heat. But I'm not a dr.

I sure hope you get to feeling better soon! Your pain sounds terrible!
  • Erm, I've been told that numbness/tingling in the groin area is not a good thing. I'd go back to the doctor to have it checked out.

All procedures have some risk of complication.

That said, I was told I would have some level of pain for 2 weeks after my rhizotomy, more than before the procedure.
