I have severe muscle spasms in my upper back, by, and below my shoulder blade. It hurts to the touch. My Pain management PA said he could give me a Muscle relaxer injection and it might help. I haven't tried it yet. What are your opinions on it?

  • I would try it if it is that bothersome to you. Is he talking about doing trigger point injections? If so ask about having a massage the following day to be sure the meds are worked in. Also are you already taking a good muscle relaxer. For myself I am dependent on my muscle relaxers along with a ten's unit to help deal with the muscle spasms. Good luck and keep us posted on how you get along.
  • Tamtam, I take Soma 350mg 2x a day. It helps some, but after a few hours it wears off.

My primary care dr gave me Valium for muscle spasm a few weeks ago and it works great! Only complaint I have is that it keeps me up, I can't fall asleep. Where as the Soma, helps me go to sleep sometimes. I'm going to see if my pain management PA will give it to me.

It hurts just to have someone touch it no less have a needle put in there. That's why I was wondering if it helped anyone or not, before I have it done. I don't know if it's trigger point or not. As soon as it's touched I jump, it hurts that much.

What muscle relaxers do you take?

Have you or anyone you know tried these injections?

  • Maybe talk to dr about the time releise muscle relaxers thats oit there so it will last through the day? But worth doing the injection and then hit the muscle relaxer once it lets up to try to keep it that way,

Injections always helped me but sadly dont last very long,

Good luck, let us know how it goes

  • I tried time release, and they work for a little while then after 2 weeks ish, or so they don't do anything.

Hopefully the injection helps, and I can keep it under control with muscle relaxers.

I'm sorry that it doesn't last longer, than it does for you.

Have you or anyone else tried Valium as a muscle relaxer?

My Pain management and Primary doctor both told me that I have a very high pain tolerance, and fast metabolism. That's why most extended release things don't help me very long.

of muscle spasms, I generally go for a series of trigger point injections. I've had them in my cervical, thoracic, lumbar, shoulder, and hip areas.

I would say within 2 or 3 visits, along with muscle relaxers (I use baclofen, but have tried most of he others) it controls it.

Then, from that point on, I just have to make sure I do what I can to avoid the spasm and make sure I dont do what I did to cause the spasms
