Recliner chair for lumbar spinal stenosis

Hello ,
I was diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis in jan 2012. I had a steroid shot in march ,and may be getting another one soon.
I have had trouble relaxing and going to sleep. I have read that sleeping in a reclining chair or a hospital bed is more comfortable
Has anyone on the forum tried either one ? Thanks

  • We have an adjustable platform sleep number bed. It has helped me sleep comfortably since suffering from a Lumbar 5 herniated disc (my secondary diagnosis is spinal stenosis but I am still unclear about what that means.... I see a spine specialist next week) I can not get comfortable and have a lot of shooting nerve pain in one leg if I sleep flat. I'm sure a recliner would work well too but if your condition is long term, invest in a bed that you can raise and lower the head and foot rest. Ours also has a vibration option on the remote control and this really helps with the nerve and muscle spasms I've been getting. A less expensive alternative would be to use a lot of pillows, prop up your legs at the knee and prop your upper body up at the same time.
