"Undiagnosed Chest Pain"

I have now been dealing with chronic pain for over a year that stemmed from an injury. I was backpacking and had too much weight and now I experience chronic chest pain and muscle spams in my upper pects with an official diagnosis of "Undiagnosed chest Pain"

Long story short, within a couple months after the inury I was seen by at least 10 Dr's. Everyone either couldnt diagnose me or a had a different diagnosis than the last DR. My PCP tried his best but eventually the case stumped him as well and he decided to send me to a specialist.

He sent my case to both UCSF and Stanford Medical (two of the best medical facilities on the west coast) asking to put me in either Rheumatology or Sport Medicine both replied in saying they didnt think either of those facilities would suit me. UCSF was completely baffled and could offer no assistance and Stanford only offered to see me at their pain clinic.( I ended up going to one closer to home)

After this occurred I gave up on trying to find the answer to my problem. I have been on meds that have helped tremendously and I have gotten back to good amount of my regular activities. But lately Ive been wanting to see if I can find an answer to this again. I just dont know where to start, I mean I depleted all major resources around me the first time with no results. any suggestions on where I should begin again?? Or do you think I should give it up and deal with it how it is?

  • Hi, just wondered if anyone has looked at thoracic spine as an issue. I went through complete heart workup, stress test and heart cath only to find out it was my T7-T8 herniation that was causing the chest pain. Who knew!!! Hope you find our something soon. It is very discouraging not to know what causes your pain:(

    hugs,

What treatments have been tried? What diagnostics?

Costocondritis is a common diagnosis based on what little information you have provided.

  • Have had X-rays, CT, MRI's with nothing out of the ordinary. Have had a million EKG's and lung tests each showing nothing.

Chostochondritis was diagnosed early on but my PM and PCP dont think I suffer from that since it usually has the symptom of tenderness to the touch which I dont have. Have tried Cortisone shots in sternum and pecs with no results. No one has looked at my spinse but I suppose that could be an option.

Thank you for your responses! The real issue with not knowing whats wrong is that you start wondering that if you did know whats wrong it could be fixed. It gives you hope that never seems to be satisfied..
