Hi guys

New here so just wanted to say hi and learn and share.

I've been dealing with back pain for almost 20 years. Always something. 2 Month ago pain got worse, then pain started shooting down my leg. Dr visits, ER visit, more Dr visits, MRI, and now I know. Severe herniated disk at L5-S1. Getting a shot tomorrow (not my first rodeo with those either). Will be considering surgery. Havent had surgery yet but as i've had problems with the same disk over many years......yada yada yada.

Anyway I joined here more for the moral support and comradery of people with the same experience.

  • I"m glad you found the site. I have found people pretty supportive. I hope the shot does some good. It's good to wait as long as you can to have surgery. The leg pain is the worst. My last surgery was December. My leg pain has improved some but is not gone, and pain there and in the back increase with activity. I hope you are confident with the surgeon you've consulted, but I suggest you get a second opinion and check out the hospitals where the surgery would be performed. I suggest going to the hospital with the better reputation. I suggest you look in the different sections to read about the various surgery options. Have questions ready and have somebody with you if possible.

    Again, welcome!

  • Thanks Karen.

Shot went went well. 12 hours later and all the pain is coming back. I know I need to give it a couple days for the steroid to work. I'm trying to keep it together right now.

  • Welcome! Good luck with your shot tomorrow. Keep us updated on if it helps.

  • Woke up at 3am with the worst pain down my left leg. Nothing I do is comfortable. This is worse then before the shot. Almost like the shot aggravated the nerve. Will be calling in the morning.
