Hello I am a 42 year young male who herniated 2 discs at L/4 L/5 and L/5 S/1 about 6 months ago.
After 4 months of conservative treatment I was refferred to a neurosurgeon who boldly and plainly informed me that I was in need of cages/pins a spinal fusion. However stated that that wasnt goin to happen,so sent me for a epidural steriod injection.
Well turns out that it made things so much worse I ended up in the ER. A few weeks later i underwent a 2 level microdiscectomy. First few days were pretty rough even with the meds. However things gradually began to get a little better but still was experiencing a good deal of sciatic pain from my right buttock down thru my lower calf.
After a few weeks I began physical therapy that consisted of heat, massage, and neuro flossing. I was doing great!
Was given premission to begin walking and let my body be my guide. Ive always been in pretty great condition and prided myself on keeping active and fit. Ive been a lead carpenter for 20 plus years. Well last night I sat down just like every other night to dress for bed and ended up in the floor paralyzed on my right side for nearly 20 minutes. Naturally i was in extreme pain and scared out of my mind. So as it stands now my PT seems to think there may be permanet nerve damage.
I return to the spinal clinic in 2 days which will be my 6 week post op check up, and looks like we are going in for another MRI.
I am scared s#&tless. I am so worried that i am going to end up in worse condition than i was before the initial surgery.
I have read quite a few of these blogs and know there are so many people with similair conditions.
If there is anyone out there with any advice on this situation please feel free to do so. Thanks for reading and keep my family and myself in youre prayers , as i truly do for all of you
