At 33 years old, I had a discectomy/laminectomy on 9/10/2013 at the L4/L5 region while 15 weeks pregnant due to a herniation that was bulging on both sides, making me unable to move without excruciating pain. All previous conservative treatments failed and surgery was my only option. (OB and surgeon were comfortable with the surgery in the 2nd trimester.) Now at 3 weeks post-op, I am doing wonderfully! The only residual effects are a numb left foot and slight pain in my left leg when vertical, but I believe these issues will go away and are tolerable, especially compared to the debilitating pain I was in prior to surgery!
I will be delivering this baby in 22 weeks. I'm concerned about two things:
1) The strain on my back until delivery
2) Best method of delivery
Has anyone else been in this situation or can you offer any advice/recommedations for my situation? I want to protect the health of my spine and prevent ANY chance of reherniating or causing further damage to my back! (With my baby's health in top consideration, as well)
