Muscle wasting after surgery

Post op 3 yrs, L4, L5, fusion and disc replacement. Felt pretty good for a few months at first. I have had much muscle wasting especially in legs. I am 52 but was in great shape. Surgeon said my back muscles were very good. I cannot seem to build muscle in legs and they keep getting weaker. The fusion looks good on xray. I have lots of cramps. From day one after surgery, my left frontal area below knee felt like a shin splint and has never gone away and causes my foot to draw up into a spasm. My right calf muscle felt like I had a needle in it and it still feels that way. I had 3 nerve conduction studies and was told it was just nerve damage and may not get better. I am doing what I can. Nutritionally I am very diciplined. I need some help to build muscle. I cannot afford to waste at this age. I have rocks to climb, and things to jump off

  • I assume you have already have tried physical therapy but have you tried different therapist/locations? I have found that some are much much better than others. I know many specialize in sports therapy/injuries and might could really help with building strength. Best of luck.
