I had my 11 day checkup today and all looks good. I took a picture of my X-ray with my camera phone. At L5S1 is my 10 year old Artificial Disk. The 3 above are rods and screws. Hope I don't rust!
Artificial disc at L5S1 for 10 years. Had 3 Level lumbar fusion and Laminectomy on Sept 27, 2013. It was an OLIF (Oblique Lumbar Interbody Fusion) with cages, BMP, rods & screws. Norco, Plaquenil

  • Hi ADRJen.
Your X-ray looks amazing. I still can't believe that your ADR is ten years old. 6 years ago I was told that they weren't even invented yet!
How are you feeling less than 2 weeks after your surgery? I wish you a smooth recovery and plenty of sleep.
    Take it easy.

  • a 10 year old artificial disc...pretty cool.
33yo mom of two. My surgical history...preadolescence scoliosis, kyphosis, and a hot mess.... 5 spine surgeries and lots of items added I wasn't born with (titanium, peek, surgical steel). Guess cremation is out. TSA loves me.

  • I went to Germany 10 years ago for my Artificial Disk. It wasn't yet approved in the US, but they had been using them in Europe for years with good results. The main reason I went that route was I wanted to avoid adjacent disk disease. Obviously that didn't work out for me!

  • I know it's very early days but how is your recovery going?
    Sending you good vibes!

  • I think I'm doing well, all things considered. I'm walking 10-15 minutes several times a day. No more walker, but I use a cane if walking very far. I have pretty intense nerve pain in both legs, especially in the morning, until the Norco kicks in. I can't sit long, but it's only been 2 weeks. Things have improved a lot in the last few days.

  • It's sounds like you're working very hard. Those walks will do wonders for you.
The nerve pains are a killer, you must be hurting all over. You will get through this and look how far you've progressed in two weeks.
Be kind to yourself and know that you have support here.
