Upper Back Pain/Hard to breathe

I am having upper back pain in and between my shoulder blades. It is also hard to take a deep breath or sniffle. It feels as though a tire is wrapped around the upper part of my torso. If I sit still, the pain eases but is still there. I can walk but have to stop because the pain increases and makes me feel like I am going to buckle.

I have scheuermann's kyphosis and degenerative disk disease. I just need to know what I need to do. It just started today.

    Yes get checked out ASAP

I have those types of pain from my costochrondritis

    When its bad like that

A physical therapist told me to go to a door way ( going into a room or closet)
put right hand on right side of door frame and the left hand on the left door frame
Holding onto both frames at the same time lean your body forward, this opens up the chest cavity and relieves the pain.

    Hope this helps

  • I am so sorry you are having so much pain. Have you been diagnosed with any kind of spine problems especially in thoracic region. When my problems started in 2011 it felt like a band around my chest and actually went through a whole lot of heart tests including heart cath only to find out it was a herniation or T7-8. Pain wrapped around left ribcage and upper left abdomen. I thought my spleen was going to rupture but my NS said the nerves thatvrun from T7-8 were causing the pain. Even after 18 months since surgery nerve pain and scar tissue the pain is still there. Have you had an appt. With a doctor and let them know what is going on. Mabe start with primary doc and mine did an xray which she could see issue with disc narrowing so sent me to my NS who did my MRI and CT scan and found herniation causing severe stenosis.

Please call your doctor and make appt to see what is going on. I still can feel pain and pressure when taking deep breaths. Please keep in touch and let us know howcyou are doing. Feel free to PM me anytime :)

  • Hi jaijaiknight, with scheuermann's or osteochrondritis, osteochrondrosis, this development disease has a rigidness that makes
it hard to treat. The main thing i would advice is to be diligent to keep good posture, keep your shoulders pulled back so that
you bring your scapulars closer together. What your aim is,is to get the load off the anterior of your vertebrae and transfer as
much as you can to your posterior elements.I would also suggest being careful when doing any lifting try not to lift heavy or
awkward things you don't want to allow any further anterior compression as this will only exacerbate the pain. Also if you
do any exercising avoid doing sit ups like you would avoid the plaque.Better to adopt different method to strengthen your
abdominal muscles, having strong abs does help to support your spine as you probably all ready know.Hope this helps you
in some way,and hope you get some pain relief.

You probably need to see a chiropractor. There may be pinched nerve or vertebrae out of place. Your tense muscles are what's making it hard to breath and when you are in pain your blood pressure rises which could explain the strong heartbeat feeling.

    Thank you
