I am a 24 year old active guy who loves to run and play sports. I came across this site and decided I would write on the forum because to be honest I don't know what to do anymore. About 3 years ago I suffered a back injury. I was squatting on a smith machine when I went to finish my set and lock the bar in the bar fell back as I stepped away and I went with it. Three weeks later I bent over real quick and heard a pop and everything locked up.
It has been 3 years, 2 epidurals and months of physical therapy and things are still not better. I go through a few months where things are ok. I actually ran the Boston Marathon last year! However, I do have sciatic pain going down my right leg every day. For the past few years I just decided it was something I would have to live with, but now it's getting to the point where I can't take it anymore.
My doctor informed me that I have the back of a 60 year old man…sweet man. He told me that surgery would have to wait until I am way older.
What do I do? I'm done getting injections (especially after that scare last year) and the therapy and core stability exercises only go so far. Is surgery the answer? What would life be like after a fusion?
I'm just so frustrated and can't spend the rest of my life popping Aleve like candy, my mind and my stomach can't handle it!
I sure would love some help, advice or ANYTHING you guys can provide!
All the best,
