Neck popping

About a month ago I turned my head to stretch my neck a had a loud painful pop occur,
mostly on the left side.

The next day my left shoulder started aching and ended up
so bad that I made three trips to emergency rooms, and was to
that I possibly had a herniated cervical disc. I had an MRI done
and was referred to a neurosurgeon, and scheduled to see him three
weeks later

The emergency doctor said he saw a lot of cervical disc degeneration
and at least three areas of issue. When I saw the surgeon he said
there were only two issues, buldging at C5 and C6 with some
stenosous. He didn't even address the upper discs and neuralgia until
I mentioned it. He said it was just strain and referred me to physical
therapy, which I'm still waiting to hear about.

What is really bothering me is the constant popping with every movement
of my head, plus the fact that there is always pain in the C1-2, and the
occipital area, and traveling up my scalp. Does anyone have any info or
similar experience? Thank you, Wendy

  • While I don't have the same issues you have, If I were you I would seek a second opinion. There is usually no harm in doing the physical therapy. Your first visit is an evaluation and you can full explain what you are going through. They will test your range of movement and determine how best to help. If it is obvious to them that there is more going on, then they will refer you back to the surgeon. Good luck.
