Question for lumbar fusion post-op

Well, my long awaited minimally invasive TLIF at L4-L5 is fast approaching (Monday). I have a question for those who have gone before me. Will I be able to wear over the head tee shirts okay? I just don't wear button down shirts at home, so I have none. I will have my husband at home to help me take them off and put them on, so I'm thinking that will be okay. But I don't want to come to the last minute realization that I won't be able to lift my arms high enough to get them on/off.

Thanks all!

  • All ! wear is pullover shirts. I just had L4-L5 posterior fusion 10 days ago and I had ALIF almost 3 yrs ago and I had no problem putting them on or taking them off all by myself :)

ALIF April 2011 but it turns out I broke before it barely fused.

I had a 2 level anterior and posterior fusion and had no problems with regular tshirts or dressing myself in general. Just took longer than normal, lol.

  • That's good to know. I'll take "button down pj's" off my shopping list! I think I'm going to pick up an over the door shoe organizer today to hold my toiletries. It occurred to me that all of my most used items (deodorant, baby wipes, etc) are located in the bottom drawer of my sink vanity, so I need to make those more accessible.

    Thanks again!

Button down shirts are for cervical patients. It is hard putting T-shirt on over collar at first. You will be fine with what is your normal choice. Good Luck on Monday
