11 ;level fusion in 2 weeks ANYONE HELP,

HELLO GUYS CAN ANYONE COMMENT ON A C4 TO T4 FUSION WITH A C2 TO C3 BRIDGE???MY SURGERY IS IN 2 WEKS and I don't know WHAT TO EXPECT both during recovery room and hospital and length of recovery..please advise...

  • Hey! I just recently had a large fusion myself. Not in my cervical area, but my T9-pelvis. My NS was very upfront about the hard times and wow he didn't lie. I wish he would have been scarier.

My surgery was 5 1/2 hours and apparently all went well. I was fused through my pelvis due to an anomaly where my sacrum wasn't fused correctly. I don't remember much about recovery except asking for my family and pain medication. I was in the hospital for 6 days due to fluid retention and low oxygen levels.

I've been at home 6 weeks and am out of vacation time and have to return Monday. I'm terrified and feel no where near ready and my doctor was like you need at least 3 months.

Best advice is have a great support system. Do all the fun things you want to now, because life gets pretty boring for awhile after surgery. Follow all the rules and find that fine line of not overdoing it, but also making yourself (as hard as I know it is) get up and walk around some b/c otherwise you will be so stiff and miserable.

This is a hard surgery, but if you are having it it's probably necessary.

    Best of luck!
