Pre and Post Laminectomy leg cramps

For at least 15 years, I have had bad leg cramps at night, that I need to jump out of bed and stand for a second to make them go away. (I assume it's from years of ballet). I just had a successful laminectomy on L4 L5 (for difficulty walking more than 50 meters) and for 2 months, no cramps at night. However, the cramps are back again. They come when I wake up and stretch (this is usually before I am really conscious - I always stretch) Is there anyone who has any idea about what causes these cramps? I find it strange that I didn't have them for 2 months after surgery, but now they are back again.
