cervical spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis results in entire neck not able to flex forward.

Hello
I am writing this in hope that some one will be able to help.

This is regarding. My son now 14.

We had been back on fore to the doctors for 12 months with back pain. The main are of pain is in the left shoulder blade.
Also We had observed the entire left of his spine muscles would contract tight causing discomfort.

In November 2013. He showed me that his neck was stiff. We took him to the hospital where all normal conditions werevruled out. He was ex rayed and then handed to the care of a peadeatric orthopedic surgeon.

Full cervical, thoracic and lumber images have been recorders. X-rays, CT and MRI.

The images have shown an enomaly on the left side of C4. It has been explained to us that the vertebra had not completely fuced during developing. This has led to allow C3 to rotate.

There is no pain in the neck area. When attempting to flex forward. The neck is completely locked. No pain in neck but high levels of pain in the thoracic T4/T5 area and towards the left scapula.

We have been told there there seems to be no reason that his neck has stopped bending. The only eon aliens are that said above
It has been recommended that surgery is performed to re rotate the slippage C3 then fuse it to C4. Al though the team of surgeons are confused to why the neck will not bend and are in sure as to weather this procedure will sucked in improving range of motion and also releasing pain from the shoulder blade.

Is there any one out there that could help with advice please.

Richard Thomas.

  • Hi Richard,
I am actually a 15 year old who has gone through 2 spinal fusions in the past 2 years due to a broken 2nd vertebra whih broke 10 years prior. Ever since my surgeries I was pain free but I was having symptoms like tingling and my bruise on my spinal cord was only getting worse. The spot where my spinal cord was being compressed would have caused respiratory failure and most likely cardiac arrest. I would be happy to answer any questions, since I am close in age with your son. Please feel free to PM me. :)
