  • I just had a lower lumbar Rhizotomy yesterday morning. I had IV sedation of Versed and Fentanyl. I was a little loopy but still awake and remember it all. They did have to give me more Fentanyl during the procedure due to my high tolerance. After returning home(1 1/2 hour drive home) I began to feel the pain of the needle sticks (6). I used ice packs on and off until I went to sleep. I slept well and when I woke up this morning I felt great but after getting ready and going into work(secretary) I began to feel pain again, although it is hard to differentiate the normal pain and pain from the needles. Is it normal to feel more pain after than before? I've had the ESI's in both lower lumbar and cervical spine for the last 2 yrs (6 months apart) but they stopped working. My ins required (2) facet blocks before having the Rhizotomy. I am hoping this gives me the relief I am hoping for. Would like to know how long after should I know that it worked? Going tomorrow for another evaluation for my cervical spine and the possibility of carpal tunnel.

I've learned after speaking with my Dr. office that yes it can be up to 4-6 weeks. I contacted them because the pain I have now is different. I had L3-4, L4-5 & L5-S1 on both sides done in one visit so I expected some discomfort but really wasn't told about the after. I am dealing as well as I can using ice and tylenol, I am on anti inflammatory meds so I can't take Ibuprofen, I have lowest dose of Percocet as well but they rev me up so I don't want to take to soon after the procedure and over do things like I have a tendency to do after taking just 1 5/325mg. I go for my follow up next Thursday, so I will just take it day by day for now.
