DDD and treatment not working

Hello All! I recently had a MRI done and was referred to an orthopaedic specialist. BWC contacted me today and said that the MRI showed DDD. I have been going to physical therapy and have been taking Norco flexeril and naprosen with zero relief. I have been unable to feel my right leg since Aug 18th and am in pain all the time. Does anyone know what my options are? I worked in a physically demanding job and am not able to do simple things right now let alone work.....is this going to be the way it is for a long time???? Any advice would be appreciated!

  • Degenerative Disc Disease is a phrase that covers a multitude of sins. On the very light end of the scale everyone has it as they age & it doesn't cause problems. On the other end of the scale it can be herniations, nerve impingement & blinding pain. You need to sit down with a spine specialist to take you through the results & explain what's going on & what the available treatment options are. Numbness & sciatica usually come from something pressing hard on a nerve. Nerve impingement needs to be relieved before nerve damage becomes permanent. Sometimes conservative treatments (injections, physical therapy etc) work & other times surgery is needed. Your leg has already been numb for quite a while. I'd push for that specialist consult as soon as possible. Best of luck. I know how painful, frustrating & frightening it is. No-one here without a crystal ball can tell you what's going to happen. I'm sorry.
