Hello, I'm 41 and from RI. I first had cervical related issues roughly 5 years ago. Intense pain in neck. Then I experienced rapid atrophy in my left pec. (I should mention I've lifted most of my life). Believe it or not, I just simply awoke one morning with this. Anyway, the atrophy scared me so I saw a specialist and got an MRI which showed C 4/5 and C6/7 bulging and pressing on nerves. It had been less than a month and the doc wanted to do surgery. I was not expecting that and decided against it. I'm used to using 90 lb dumbbells chest press. When I attempted to go back after pain went away, I couldn't do more than 30 with my left side. I continued until after a year I fully recovered both size and strength. Fast forward to the present, and 8 months ago I had another "cervical attack". This time, it was my upper right pec and right tricep that quickly atrophied. MRI concluded same reason...disc protrusion. Again, I opted against surgery. Now, I'm having second thoughts. My strength has come back a little, but not as much as last time. I don't have pain, but still some numbness. Not being able to work out has truly crushed my spirit. This injury has changed my life profoundly. I'm not the same person. I feel depressed, self conscious of how my right arm and chest look. My right tricep is basically gone, esp. compared to my left one. Thing is, I finally got my dream job 3 months ago but am on probation for another 3. If I get surgery now, I'm sure they will let me go. Ill have to wait at least 3 more months. I'm just scared that it'll be too little too late. Thanks for letting me rant!
