Temporary spinal block

alright, so recently, my husband was in the hospital with a herniated disc causing a pinched nerve that was so severe he couldn't sit up and could hardly walk to the bathroom. they had him in observation for nearly five days because he didn't have health insurance and the on call surgeon didn't want to have to do surgery. well, in that time period, before finding another surgeon, he was given a constant flow of different narcotics and was still in pain. I was wondering if they could have done a spinal block or an epidural while waiting, or if that wouldn't have been an option? thank you all!

only because we are not aware of all of the situations, plus there is no one on this site that is medically qualified to provide such an answer.

From what you described and there was nerve damage, the only solution in my mind would be the surgery. Everything else is just buying time. Since you indicated that there is no health insurance involved, what would be the longer solution? Cant stay in a hospital.
