On 2 June 2014 I had a c3-4 disc replacement followed by c5-6 on July 28, recovery seemed to be going ok until I was off all meds and starting to use my arm more. Then I had a recurrence of all symptoms, headaches, neck pain and arm pain all the way to my hands, the more I do, the greater the pain. At the moment I am taking 10mg targin and 2 mg rivotril after 2-4 sleepless nights for some relief. Not terribly fond of using narcotic drugs but after not sleeping due to pain for a few nights I kinda need it. My Ortho says everything he has done re the implants is correct and sees no reason for my continued pain, the operations should have fixed it. My GP is now becoming reluctant to prescribe narcotics, I have tried many other pain relif drugs to no avail.
Has anyone else had a less than optimal surgical outcome like mine, and if so, how do you go about coping with the ongoing pain? Already lost my business and have had to sell my home and am feeling the pressure of a possible no result, but trying to stay positive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Steve

  • I can't really answer your question but some people find some relief and sleep from a benzo diazepam like xanax or ativan. They are addicting as well but it at least doesn't tank out your natural brain pain killers. It is an off label use for antianxiety drugs.

Also Pan away essential oil from a well known company seems to be helping me along with a topical aspirincontaining menthol rub. Narcotics work the best but they are a two edged sword and very hard to get in my case anyway.

I hope you can find some support and healing.
