Spinal Stenosis L4/L5 Laminectomy

Hi...I'm new to this forum and very anxious to share positive experiences around lumbar surgery. I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis (L4/L5) about 9 months ago. My usual lower back pain developed into severe back pain - and then I developed sciatica with bilateral pain in my buttocks, thighs and down the outside of my left leg. The pain feels like strong muscle cramping or pulled muscles. Although the pain has become a bit milder over the months, it is still extremely painful and my quality of life has been affected. I finally decided to speak to a surgeon and he felt I could benefit greatly from a laminectomy (without fusion as the spine appears to be stable with no other issues in that area). However, because a synovial cyst has developed, he suggested a device called a Coflex be inserted to stop the leakage of synovial fluid and prevent another cyst from developing. I set a date for surgery in early October but am extremely, extremely nervous and anxious about my decision - even though it will be done by a talented doctor in a terrific hospital in NYC. Can anyone share their experiences with me.
