Ligament pain? New here, looking for any sort of assistance.

Hello friends and fellow back pain survivors or current sufferers. Firstly, to the one's suffering, I'm sorry. I know what you're going through and it's not easy.

I've learned a lot along my road and am happy to be here to help anyone with what I can.

Briefly, I will present my problem which is that of a circumferential disc bulge with posterior disc protrusion located at l4/l5 which was confirmed via MRI in April.

I've tried prolotherapy which helped slightly.

One thing that has really helped me is building up my core muscles and working on fixing my posture. Being mindful of my posture throughout the day and trying to focus on it at all times.

Okay so here is my questions I'm looking for help with.... wondering if anyone has similar experience!

My mobility is fairly good, I can extend in cobra pose and I can move quite freely. I have mild sciatica with numbness located in rear calf and foot of my right leg. My main problem is that of muscle / ligament tension.

When I slouch in my lumbar spine that is when I feel the most pain. To describe it it feels like the ligaments between my spinal processes are going to rip open if I put too much pressure on them. Any sort of slouching in this area causes strong pain... 7/10. It's a sharp pain. I believe it to be my multifidus muscle? The funny thing is as I did cobras it moved around as it used to strain in my lower region l4/l5 etc and now I would say is located in l1... or maybe even near my thoracic area? I also feel a slight pull of the ligaments or muscles around both s1 regions and maybe a bit lower towards my SI joints. It feels like the whole thing is locked and greatly reduces my mobility and obviously causes discomfort as I can't sit etc.

I saw a specialist who informed me it was referral pain and described it the same as whiplash... I have tried needling, physio, chiro, prolotherapy, yoga, exercising etc. It has improved since February when I went off work and allowed some of the tissues to reform and heal, however it's very stubborn and seems to not want to leave me.

Does anyone have a similar experience? When I stand I feel most of the pain gone and feel fine. The other part is it runs mostly along the left side of my spine... and seems to connect to both regions as mentioned near the s1, SI joint.

When it's at it's worse is when slouching when it feels best would be neutral spine standing. Even extending too far in cobra pose can cause pain in the higher region. I feel like if I could get this problem to resolve and with strengthening later on my back pain would resolve....

The good news:

This is my second incident with lower back pain. I had a very bad disc bulge in 2012... I want to let everyone know I fully recovered from that and went on to become stronger then I ever was.... up until this incident which was caused by bad form in an exercise (Needless to say I won't do that again). So there is hope!

Please let me know if you have any ideas or any suggestions - desperate here.

Thanks so much,
Methad

  • Hey Methad!

I am experiencing the same symtoms! Pain in left lower back for 6 months, especially when slouching or letting my left hip "hang".

    Have you found any help?
