Hi all: I am a new member and need your wise advice. I have been relatively healthy all my life, but recently had a period of a year of constant activity as my job is very physical, and one day I developed a spasm in my right hip that didn't go away. I tried stretching it, but started to get groin pain and pain down the front of my leg. It was really not getting better until it started to shoot down the leg and I couldn't walk. I had a MRI of the lumbar spine and I have two herniated discs at L3/L4 and L5/S1 and I was in so much pain. The doctor prescribed PT for six weeks, but I started going to acupuncture which has helped. I start PT on Monday, but just walking is difficult and I live in a major city that requires walking daily. I have had to basically quit my job, or only perform the non-physical parts, and hire people, and I am sitting home really depressed. I could use some support. The acupuncturist said I should try to avoid surgery at all costs, and he recommend I purchase an inversion table to open up the discs. Yesterday I had a good day, but there is still pressure from my job just supervising my staff, and I started to get pain in my lower back again. I am having tingling down my leg when I walk and I cannot believe that I am basically home bound. I could use some advice and support. Does a herniated disc heal by itself. I am standing much straighter than I was a few weeks ago, and yesterday I was able to get completely off pain killers for the day (I am taking Aleve) but today I needed two pills just to dull the pain. The most difficult thing is that I don't know if this conservative treatment will work. Your wise advice and support would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
