Learn how to use the Veritas Health Forum: Take the System Tutorial

Hello Everyone. Recently rec'd a diagnosis of two herniated and two bulging discs between L3-S1.

I was shocked to learn I have four disc issues last week.  The discs are hitting my S1 nerve; my pain and the numbness is outrageous.

I have an appointment to meet with a surgeon this week to review my options.  I've ruled out any consideration of injections due to the severity of my spinal condition.  It seems to me that a discectomy would be appropriate.  However, I'm anxious to learn of add'l treatment options.

I hope my condition will resonate with someone in this forum who can share their surgical and recovery experience.

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi ellton
I am sorry to hear about your pain. I had no previous issues, accidents, etc when I suddenly began experiencing severe sciatica.
I was in a lot of pain. I had an mri which revealed a large herniation at L5S1. I had a microdiscectomy  on 6/16/16.

The surgery completely eliminated the sciatica. It was outpatient surgery so I was home that night. I also didn't want to prolong the agony so opted for surgery rather than try different conservative treatments.
