Lack of energy

Today is post op day 25, L4-L5 PLIF. I finally drove on post op day 20. Now I am ready to get my energy back. Small tasks drain me terribly. I went to the grocery store today because I was running out of microwave meals and I couldn't wait to get back to the car. I used a scooter to conserve my energy as I cannot walk very far yet. When does the energy return? My surgery date was 9/29 and my next appt isn't until 11/18. No physical therapy yet, just walking allowed. Graduated to sleeping in bed on post op day 15, what a great feeling the recliner was getting to me.

    welcome to the spine-health forums.

are you walking? it sounds like maybe you aren't. walking will rebuild the muscles and promote blood flow. the more active that you are, probably the sooner you will get some energy back - but note that you do have a lot of healing to do which can take some energy.

I am at 29 days, same procedure. I haven't driven yet. Just do as much as you can. I get drained walking to the corner but I do it at least twice a day and I walk as much as possible in my house. Some days I need a nap after my walks but my surgeon told me the more I walk the better for the fusion so I go as much as I can.

I am not a big red meat eater but I had a steak the other night and I feel better the last couple of days. I also take vitamins since the surgery. I think I needed the iron. Try to keep moving and get some vitamins and see if they help.
