I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I don't know about you but Nuerontin doesn't seem to do anything for the pain. I hope the physical therapy helps. Hang in there!

Hollypwr, welcome to Spine Health!! I am so sorry you are in so much pain and no one is helping you.
Have you called your insurance to see if they will pay for PT? Your doctor might be able to call or e-mail your insurance to wave the PT and approve the MRI.
Sounds like you need to call your doctor tomorrow regarding your pain and the Neurontin not helping.
You can always get a second opinion, which sometimes is a good thing.
Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

  •  I feel bad for you as well being in this situation. You shouldn't be suffering needlessly, especially since you've had previous back surgery. I had retrolisthesis develop after a microdiscectomy for disc herniation in my lumbar spine. The same disc blew 1 month post op too, and this led to a fusion several months later. Are you seeing a spine or pain specialist, and can you find another doctor? Neurontin alone won't cut it.

For now try alternating with Tylenol with Motrin. Prescription strength Motrin comes in 800mg tablets, so 4 OTC Motrin tablets are the equivalent (of course check with your doctor first). Icy Hot w/ Lidocaine is great for muscular pain and numbing nerve pain. Ice pack and heating pad is also a good way to lessen the pain a bit. Hot shower or bath with Epsom salt also helps.

If these self help measures don't work and the pain gets much worse, don't hesitate to go to the ER. I try not too because of the current anti narcotic atmosphere, but when I have to go I ask for a Toradol shot. It works great to relieve the pain for a few days. Most times the doctor will mercifully give me IV Dilaudid. I never ask for pain meds so I let them offer it. I always let them know I'm a pain clinic patient. They usually will send me home with a Medrol dose pack. Hopefully the doctor would order a CT scan at the ER so this could expedite the MRI you need.

You could also try asking for a muscle relaxer. This will also be a big help because a blend of medications works the best with all aspects of back pain. I can't see why you can't be at least given Tramadol or Norco while you have to endure 6 weeks of PT.  See if they're willing to give you a TENS unit too.

I hope any of these suggestions will help you get some relief so that you can stay at your job while you're trying to take care of your back. Please let us know how things go. Take care..
