L5-s1fusion goofed up ?

I had my fusion a about two years after a auto wreck it seemed to fix me right up . Then the pain started coming back then numbness that started in my left little toe then all the way across my foot , up my calf then started with the pain in my calf upper leg it took about three years to get where I am now !! The thing is I had a  chiropractor look at some x-rays done a while ago and he saw a  screw on the bottom left side of my l-spine sticking out and the plate is kind of crooked looking ? I wonder If any one had a screw removed or had problems with the alignment of the plate ??

    Tommie...

I had a double level PLIF (L4-L5-S1) in 2013 and at 18 months one of the screws at the L5-S1 level broke and the bone fusion itself slipped out of position causing lots of pain something like you are experiencing.  I had a second surgery where they removed the old hardware and completely redid the fusion at L5-S1 with new hardware.  My advise is you should go see orthopedic doctor ASAP and get an MRI so he/she can fully understand what has gone wrong with your back before it gets worse.

  • Hi,
I had a TLIF L5 fusion in July 2013. My pain was worse after surgery due to problems called dermtomes.  I suffered for 3 years. I had a spinal reconstruction in my l5 because of the failed surgery and I had some problems which lead to an l4 Fusion.  The new doctor was great. I have alot of muscle pains and such.  My surgery was in the middle of December and I"m barley 8 weeks post op.  The greats pain is in my muscle where they put the drain in.  The drain was no joke.  I am wearing a spinal stimulator and my care is 180 degrees different from my first surgery.
  • Well some have it worse than me obviously /not joking a week ago I had my MRI I have a standing order and perscription for tordal and gravol  shots / my wife gives me them at home ! Every two days or sometimes less sometimes more it's the only thing they seem to be happy to prescribe for my pain . Oh yea back to the MRi ,the  night after I had my MRI I was in quite a it of pain (after driving for hours to get there ) and the emerg doc looked at my MRI and x-Ray and said he didn't see anything that looked out of place ? I asked him about the screw sticking out and he told me it must have been don for a reason ! I don't know but I am going to see my GP in a few weeks to get a appt with a neurosurgeon I HOPE , by the way hang in there all who are struggling with pain and frustration there is people out there who have good news also so there is an answer it's just asking the right question to the right doctor /!? Peace out eh !
  • If the chiropractor saw this on an X-ray, I would have myself looked at by a back specialist because of the issues you are having.
