The kids are home for the summer and it is impossible to get them to do so much as clean their own rooms. I try so hard to keep up with everything even when I am having a bad day and I am in a lot of pain. What am I going to do post surgery?!! I can barely get them to put dish in the dishwasher without whining!!!! Sorry, I know I am the one whining now. Just stressed today trying to get some help.

  • Have you sat down with them and explained how important it is for you to recover after your surgery and how much you NEED them to help you with your recovery? Maybe if the know they are NEEDED in this process they will give you a break. You also might try rewarding them for chores completed or give them a little alone time in their bedroom without something to do. I don't know the ages of your children, but there should be something that would make it worth their while to do their chores or even a little extra to take the heat off of you. Hang in there!!
  • My kids are 10 and 13. It is partially my own fault that I don't get much help. I have always done everything and expected very little so they are not in the habit of having to do anything. I like the idea of a check list and reward. It will be hard for me to accept the way they do things and keep my mouth shut when it is not "perfect". I just can't imagine how things will run when I am out of commission. I am sure that some things will just have to wait until I am able. Also, I will be having my surgery after school is back in session and the kids will be very busy with homework and after school stuff. I guess I will just have to learn to relax.

  • :) you will need help after surgery and it is a problem you need to look at and alleviate!!! perhaps a girlfriend or an older family member like your mom would work!! please don't let yourself be caught without assistance. if your immediate family can't be behind you then face that reality and look elsewhere! good luck! Jenny :)
